West Charlotte hangs on 14-7 against Lake Norman to advance to 4A playoffs’ 2nd round
West Charlotte advanced to the second round of the N.C. 4A West playoffs with a 14-7 home victory over Lake Norman Friday night.
West Charlotte's Devontez Walker caught two touchdown passes from Joshua Mahatha in the first half for a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Lake Norman cut the lead to 14-7 in the third quarter and had chances in the fourth but West Charlotte stopped the Wildcats three times on fourth down in the final period to seal the victory.
Records: West Charlotte is 7-5; Lake Norman is 3-9.
Three Who Mattered
Walker (West Charlotte): He had 91 yards receiving and caught both touchdown receptions for the Lions (29, 51 yards).
Khaliq Barnes (West Charlotte): He ran for 92 yards on 16 carries and made the interception on Lake Norman's final offensive play to seal the Lions' victory.
Gage Smith (Lake Norman): He was 13-for-23 passing for 181 yards and scored Lake Norman's only touchdown on a 1-yard run.
What’s Next
West Charlotte will travel - not far- to face second-seeded West Mecklenburg in the second round of the playoffs next Friday.
