Davidson Day scores basketball sweep on the road

Davidson Day boys’ and girls’ basketball teams remained unbeaten Monday, scoring easy road victories at Hickory Christian.

The Patriots’ boys built a big first-half lead and posted a 79-34 victory. The girls’ team raced out to a 27-5 first-quarter advantage, on route to a 62-12 romp.

The boys and girls team each are 3-0 on the season.

Concord Jay M. Robinson 74, China Grove Carson 60: The visiting Bulldogs outscored the Cougars 22-14 in the third quarter, taking this season-opener for both teams.

High Point Christian 86, Hickory Grove Christian 67: Hickory Grove dropped to 1-3.

Mallard Creek 75, Harrisburg Hickory Ridge 55

North Mecklenburg 88, Harding 61: The Vikings exploded for 35 second-quarter points, building a big halftime lead and coasting.

North Wilkes 54, Avery County 49

South Mecklenburg 45, South Aiken 41: The Sabres won their opener, playing in the first round of the Bearcat Preseason Tournament in Rock Hill.

Southern Pines Pinecrest 63, Anson County 52: The Bearcats dropped their opener at home.

Indian Trail Porter Ridge 71, Northwest Cabarrus 66: Cameron Stitt scored 29 points, on 10-of-14 shooting, and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the victorious Pirates. Fredo Gustave scored 20 for Northwest.

Monroe Central Academy 69, Unionville Piedmont 66: The Cardinals erased a 55-49 third-quarter deficit and rallied for a victory.

Harrisburg Hickory Ridge 59, Mallard Creek 57: Sydney Hunter had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Mallard Creek.

Monroe 49, Concord 37: Jasmine Reddick’s 13 points led the Redhawks, and Angel Roland added 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Mooresville Langtree Charter 64, Concord Covenant Classical 25

North Lincoln 49, Gastonia Highland Tech 29: Dylan Ambrose and Holli Wood each scored 14 for the victors, who outscored the Rams 33-10 in the second half.

R-S Central 58, Boiling Springs Crest 42

Southern Pines Pinecrest 73, Anson County 35: The host Bearcats were outscored 27-8 in the first quarter.

Weddington Arborbrook Christian 89, Southlake Christian 19: The Falcons had four players in double figures, led by Christine Zawacki’s 16 points.
