Watauga County running back wins Observer football player of the week

Boone Watauga running back Jake Watson is this week’s Charlotte Observer high school football player of the week.

Watson ran 22 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns last week, to lead the Pioneers to a 35-13 win over Winston-Salem’s Mount Tabor High School.

Watson got more than 36 percent of the vote this week, to finish ahead of Lawndale Burns QB Cam’Ron Sweezy and Richmond Senior wide receiver Jakolbe Baldwin.

Watson and Watauga (13-1) play at Weddington (13-0) in Friday’s N.C. 3AA state semifinal. For the season, Watson has rushing 114 times for 738 yards and 21 touchdowns.
