Catholic school star is Observer girls basketball player of the week
Christ The King freshman Riley Milligan is the Charlotte Observer high school girls basketball player of the week.
Milligan won a tight race over Central Cabarrus’ Aniyah Tate after the two girls stars pulled away from the pack in early voting.
Milligan finished with more than 16,000 votes, besting Tate, who was near the 15,000-vote total.
Last week, Milligan, a 5-foot-6 guard scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Crusaders to a 51-49 overtime upset of Community School of Davidson.
Milligan had 14 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime session of the same game.
Milligan also had five points, five rebounds and four steals to lead Christ the King to a 43-27 win over Thomas Jefferson Academy Jan. 10.
Milligan is averaging 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for Christ the King (9-6) this season.
