McDonald’s All-American nominees include 24 NC high school basketball players
North Mecklenburg High senior Tristan Maxwell was named a McDonald’s All-American game nominee Tuesday.
More than 900 players nationwide were nominated for the annual all-star basketball game, which will be held on April 1 in Houston.
Maxwell, a Georgia Tech recruit, was the only nominee from Mecklenburg County. Josh Hall from Moravian Prep in Hickory was also nominated. Hall is an N.C. State recruit.
Several players from the Triangle, including Millbrook’s Nolan Dorsey, Samuel Hood and Jalen McCoy; Corinth Holders Justin Stephens along with Word of God’s Isaiah Todd, a Michigan recruit, were also nominated. There were 14 boys from North Carolina in all.
▪ Ten N.C. girls are McDonald’s All-American nominees including five from the Charlotte Observer and News & Observer coverage zones.
Newton-Conover’s Chyna Cornwell and Ardrey Kell’s Evan Miller are girls nominees from the Charlotte-area. A pair of Southeast Raleigh stars — Jamia Hazell and Anya Poole — were nominated from the Triangle along with Durham Hillside’s Faith Blackstone.
