Jadyn Davis, the 8th-grade QB with SEC offers, transfers out of Providence Day

A high-profile class of 2024 high school football player is heading to Catawba Ridge High next year.

Jadyn Davis, an eighth-grade quarterback with scholarship offers from Alabama and Georgia, has transferred out of Providence Day in Charlotte, where he played this past season, he told The Charlotte Observer in an Instagram message on Monday.

Copperheads head football coach Zac Lendyak confirmed Davis’ transfer.

“He’s a big time player,” Lendyak said.

Lendyak said Davis’ parents contacted him around winter break to inquire about the possibility of playing at Catawba Ridge. Davis, who lives in the Fort Mill area, made the decision to leave Providence Day in early January.

Davis is 6-foot and 155 pounds. He played for Providence Day, a K-12 school, last season. He played in one game and notched six solo tackles, according to MaxPreps.

Providence Day head coach Adam Hastings told The Herald in a phone interview Monday that he’s no longer at the school.

“We hate to see him go because obviously he’s a talented player but even a better kid,” Hastings said. “He’s going to be a really good football player. (His) parents were commuting from Fort Mill to South Charlotte. I think it became an issue over time...

“You hate to see a player and a young man that is that talented and who has such a high character, leave your school community and your football team. But you’re also confident because of his ability and because of his character that wherever he goes, he’s going to end up being a talented player and contributing wherever he ends up at.”

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Davis is transferring from Providence Day to Catawba Ridge High School. He’ll attend Catawba Ridge next year.
