UNC football gets commitment from Vance High linebacker Power Echols

Vance High linebacker Power Echols, the MVP of the N.C. 4A state championship game, has committed to North Carolina. Echols announced his commit on social media.

Echols, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound junior linebacker, told the Observer in December he had narrowed his potential colleges to Clemson, Penn State and North Carolina.

Last season, Echols had 156 tackles with 14 sacks and 22 tackles for loss. He forced seven fumbles. Echols, a two-time all-conference selection, is also a two-time Charlotte Observer Defensive Player of the Year. He was named the N.C. Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. He is a finalist for the award this season.

247 Sports ranks Echols as four-star recruit and the nation’s No. 6 inside linebacker nationally.
