Union County sprinter wins Charlotte Observer athlete of the week
Cuthbertson High junior Aidan McNally is the Charlotte Observer athlete of the week.
He won three individual state championships at the N.C. High School Athletic Association indoor track state championships in Winston-Salem on Feb. 14 and helped Cuthbertson to a runner-up finish.
McNally won the 300-meter dash indoor title in 34.86 seconds.
McNally teamed with Ari Richards, Jacob Koerner and Zach Ross to win the 3A state indoor championship in the 800-meter relay.
McNally also anchored the 3A state champion 1,600-meter relay team with Ryan Kobziak, Koerner and Ross.
In this week’s voting, McNally totaled more than 9,000 votes, to beat out Charlotte Latin’s Dean Omirly and Cannon’s Cam Abaqueta.
