Iredell County wrestler is Observer athlete of the week -- barely
Mooresville High wrestler Isaac Shaw won the closest — and most popular — vote of the season to become the Observer’s athlete of the week.
Nearly 80,000 votes were counted and Shaw won by 351 votes over Newton Foard’s Landon Foor. Hough’s Richard Treanor was third.
Shaw, a senior, won the 152-pound N.C. 4A individual wrestling state championship at the Greensboro Coliseum Feb. 22.
Shaw defeated Apex’s Kaleb Williams in the finals to complete a 20-0 record this season.
Shaw was the 138-pound 4A state individual championship last year.
