Private school star is Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week
Charlotte Latin boys basketball star Randy Johnson is the Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week.
Johnson dominated this week’s vote, getting more than 63 percent of the votes cast.
A 6-foot senior guard and a Holy Cross recruit, Johnson averaged 27.5 points in two N.C. Independent Schools state tournament games.
Johnson had 19 points and seven assists in a 68-62 upset of No. 1 seed Durham Academy in the NCISAA 4A state semifinals at Providence Day Feb. 21. That win sent Latin to the finals for the first time in 16 years.
The next day, Johnson had 36 points and five assists in a 71-69 loss to Cannon School in the NCISAA 4A state championship game. That was his final high school game.
Johnson, a Holy Cross signee, is averaging 20.4 points and six assists for Charlotte Latin (22-8) this season.
