Charter school star is Charlotte Observer girls basketball player of the week
Community School of Davidson junior Lauren Whitley is the Charlotte Observer girls basketball player of the week.
Whitley, a 5-11 junior, received more than 50 percent of this week’s vote and finished ahead of Hickory Ridge’s Kennedy Calhoun and Freedom’s Josie Hise.
Last week, Whitley averaged 17.7 points and five rebounds per game as Community School of Davidson beat Queens Grant, Union Academy and Langtree Charter en route to the PAC 7 1A Conference tournament title.
Whitley had 17 points and eight rebounds in a 63-12 win over Queens Grant Feb. 17.
Two nights later, she had 14 points in a 56-30 win over Union Academy.
Whitley scored 22 points and had five rebounds in a 61-52 victory over Langtree Charter in the PAC 7, 1A tournament championship game Feb. 21.
