Providence Day football coach Adam Hastings steps down. Here’s where he’s going.
Providence Day football coach Adam Hastings has resigned and the school’s athletic director is looking for his replacement.
“Adam has been a great mentor to so many young men these past five years,” Nancy Beatty, the Providence Day AD, said. “We wish him only the best in his next adventure.”
Hastings, 37, was hired before the 2015 season and replaced Bruce Hardin. At Providence Day, Hastings’ teams were 31-22. The Chargers were Division I state runner-up in 2017. Providence Day won the NCISAA Division II state championship title in November.
Hastings said he is pursuing other opportunities outside of North Carolina.
“This was an opportunity for me to be closer to home,” said Hastings, who lives in the Marvin area, about 25 miles south of Charlotte. “I’ve had an amazing time. I loved kids there, the community and I’m so proud of what we’ve done and so proud to be a part of so many kids lives. I’ll miss the people. The people are special. It’s what makes that community so special.”
▪Drew Hackett is the new head football coach at Sun Valley. Hackett coached junior varsity at Central Academy. Hackett, a Charlotte native, replaces Tad Baucom who stepped down in January for personal reasons.
Hackett began his coaching career as an assistant at West Charlotte and later became interim head coach. He later became offensive coordinator at Hough. Hackett was head coach at Bishop McGuinness in Kernersville before he returned to the Charlotte-area at Central Academy, which is seeking to relaunch its varsity program.
