Former North Mecklenburg football coach takes Cabarrus County job

Eric Morman, who resigned from North Mecklenburg High last week, is the new head football coach at Northwest Cabarrus.

Morman told the Observer Tuesday he had been approved at the new school. At Northwest Cabarrus, he replaces Brandon Gentry, who coached the Trojans for four seasons. Gentry’s last two teams were a combined 25-3.

Gentry left to become coach at Cabarrus County newest high school school, West Cabarrus. West Cabarrus will play its first season next fall.

Morman’s first day at Northwest Cabarrus will be March 27.

“This is a great opportunity to make an immediate positive impact in the community in which I live,” Morman said. “I am excited to begin building relationships and continuing to set a culture of success. Our goal is to make certain our players understand, that as a staff, we are here to be completely invested in them.”

Morman coached at North Mecklenburg for three seasons, going 16-20. His first team, in 2017, finished 9-4. That was just the second winning season North Mecklenburg had since going 10-3 in 2006 under Glen Padgett.

North Meck was 6-6 in 2018 and 1-10 last season.

“Eric Morman personifies what we desire as a leader of our student-athletes on the field, but more importantly, in life,” said Northwest Cabarrus athletic director Jason Adams. “We have every confidence that he will grow our young men as citizens, future husbands and fathers.”
