The 2019-20 All-Observer wrestling team is here and includes a junior who won 110 in a row

The Observer begins its winter sports awards today with the all-star wrestling team.

Over the next several days, the newspaper will name All-Observer teams for wrestling, indoor track, swimming and basketball. The annual Mr. and Ms. Basketball for North and South Carolina will also be named.

The All-Observer teams represent the top players in the newspaper’s coverage area, which covers more than 150 schools.

Fred T. Foard dominates wrestling all-star teams

The Fred T. Foard wrestling team always has great expectations. The Tigers have won five NCHSAA state championships.

This year, Tigers coach Mike Carey helped his team post a perfect 47-0 record. Along the way, Foard won the 2A dual-team state title. Carey is the 2019-20 Charlotte Observer co-wrestling coach of the year.

Fred T. Foard’s Landon Foor is the All-Observer wrestler of the year after going a perfect 63-0 on his way to his second straight 182-pound, 2A state individual championship.
