This week, MaxPreps released its list of the most dominant N.C. high school football teams of the past decade, from 2010-19.

The top three teams were all from Mecklenburg County: No. 1 Charlotte Catholic, No. 2 Mallard Creek and No. 3 Butler.

Charlotte Catholic has won three straight state championships and four in the past five seasons.

Wake Forest, from Wake County, is No. 4, followed by another Charlotte-area team, Shelby, at No. 5. Shelby is in Cleveland County.

Private school power Charlotte Christian, another Mecklenburg County team, was No. 8.

In January, the Observer released its All-Decade team, naming Catholic’s Mike Brodowicz as coach of the decade.

He took over the program from legendary coach Jim Oddo before the 2014 season. In six years, Brodowicz’s teams went 85-8 overall, 41-1 against conference competition and reached six straight Western Regional championship, or state semifinal, games. Catholic lost in the N.C. 4A state final in 2014, then the Cougars won the title in 2015. They have won the past three N.C. 3A state championship games.
