4 Mecklenburg, Wake County stars on list for nation’s best high school football linebacker.

Three Charlotte-area high school football players, and one from Raleigh, are among the finalists for the Butkus Award. The award is annually given to the nation’s top linebacker.

Two-time N.C. defensive player of the year Power Echols of Vance was joined by Mountain Island Charter’s Gabe Stephens and Kings Mountain’s Dameon Wilson, among Charlotte-area candidates.

Raleigh Sanderson’s Jabril McNeill was also named to the list.

One other N.C. player was named: Kernersville Glenn’s Raneiria Dilworth.
