Myers Park QB Drake Maye impresses at top camp. Area stars on All-America watch list
Myers Park High quarterback Drake Maye had an impressive showing at a camp for some of the nation’s best high school quarterbacks over the weekend.
Maye participated in the QB Collective Camp in Indianapolis, joined by some of the top high school quarterbacks in all grades. The rising seniors included Oklahoma recruit Caleb Williams, Ohio State recruit Kyle McCord and Notre Dame recruit Tyler Buchner.
Maye, a University of North Carolina commitment and ranked the No. 21 overall recruit nationally by 247Sports, impressed the coaches and scouts there.
“He has so many qualities that point towards him being a really good college player but also professional potential,” QB Collective instructor Sage Rosenfels told 247Sports. “Not just the physical stuff but the way he carries himself, the way he is with other players, the way he is with other coaches. There is an aspect to him that leads me to believe he’s going to have a long playing career.”
Rosenfels marveled at how easy Maye can throw the football, comparing him to Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray.
Maye, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound rising senior, has thrown for 6,713 yards and 86 touchdowns in two seasons at Myers Park. He’s thrown seven interceptions in two years and completed nearly 70% of his passes.
Maye was the MaxPreps N.C. player of the year as a junior. 247Sports ranks him as the No. 2 pro-style college recruit in America.
