In Union County, Marvin Ridge hires its new lacrosse coach

Marvin Ridge High School has hired Alixis Roccia as its new girls lacrosse coach.

Roccia, a graduate of Fort Mill’s Nation Ford High, played lacrosse and basketball at Averett University in Danville, Va. She earned an undergraduate degree in psychology and a master’s in education. As a player, she was named to the all-district academic team in lacrosse and later became an assistant coach at the school.

“I am very excited and looking forward to establishing a competitive team full of talented lacrosse players who will succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in the community,” Roccia said. “It will be a great experience helping student-athletes create a legacy and traditions that will live on for years. I am extremely thankful for the support I have already received from the Marvin Ridge administration and community.”

Marvin Ridge athletic director Tom Jamerson said Roccia’s playing and coaching experience played a big role in her landing the job at the Union County school.

“Coach Roccia’s passion for lacrosse and developing lasting relationships really stood us for us in the hiring process,” he said. “Her experience playing and coaching at the collegiate level has helped her develop a great perspective on developing players and teams. We are excited about our girl’s lacrosse program. We have a great community with talented players and we look forward to see coach Roccia’s impact as she continues to take our program to the next level.”
