Olympic High’s new girls basketball coach comes from the college level

LaToya Jones is the new girls basketball coach at Olympic High School.

Jones, most recently the women’s basketball coach at Chowan University, replaces Jessica Freeman at Olympic. Freeman coached at Olympic for two seasons before leaving to take an assistant position at Virginia Union.

Olympic was 15-10 under Freeman in the 2019-20 season and 11-12 in the 2018-19 season. Before Freeman arrived, the Trojans’ last winning season was in 2010.

“We had over 50 applicants for the position and a very talented candidate pool that we interviewed,” Olympic athletic director Stephanie Wilkerson said. “That’s a testament to the impact Coach Freeman had on making the program competitive and ultimately attractive for any coach. We were very pleased with everything she accomplished at Olympic and looking forward to the future of the program with coach Jones taking the reigns.”
