Northwestern senior Kori Wancheck is the Observer’s softball player of the year.

Wancheck, the S.C. 4A Player of the Year, was 22-6 on the mound with a 0.92 earned-run average (ERA). She struck out 241 batters in 184 innings.

Wancheck hit .512 with seven home runs, and the USC Upstate recruit helped the Trojans advance to the S.C. 4A semifinals, before losing to Clover.

Piedmont softball coach Jason Phelix is the Observer’s softball coach of the year, leading his team to the 3A state semifinals on a roster with only two seniors.

Piedmont (21-6, 8-2) also shared the Southern Carolinas’ conference title with 2014 3A state champion Sun Valley.

Pitchers

Kori Wancheck, Northwestern, Sr.: S.C. 4A Player of the Year, USC Upstate signee had a banner year at the plate, hitting. 512 with seven home runs. Pitching, her record was 22-6 with 241 strikeouts.

Cristi Pressley, Piedmont, Jr.: Southern Carolina Pitcher of the Year and District 6 3A Pitcher of the Year. Had 19-5 record with 1.41 ERA, and also hit .395 with 12 doubles.

Brittany Pickett, Sun Valley, Jr.: 2014 Observer Player of the Year. Had 16-3 record on the mound,. Also hit .448 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. Has committed to play for North Carolina.

Keleigh Romine, Jay M. Robinson, Sr.: MECKA 4A and District 6 4A Pitcher of the Year with 18-5 record, 1.00 ERA and 207 strikeouts. Has signed with Winthrop.

Catchers

Hannah Adamczyk, Sun Valley, Sr.: Southern Carolinas’ conference player of the year. Hit .620 with 10 doubles, only striking out twice all season. Signed with UNC Wilmington.

Kylee Leonhardt, West Lincoln, So.: Southern District 7 conference offensive player of the year. Hit .429 with 10 home runs and 46 RBIs. Committed to play for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Infielders

Marisa Harkey, Clover, Sr.: Two-time, all-state pick hit .439 with two home runs, 24 RBIs. Signed with Furman.

Emma Swenson, Butler, Jr.: Southwestern 4A Player of the Year hit .500 with two home runs and 14 doubles. Committed to play for Wingate.

Hannah Smith, Porter Ridge, Jr.: All-SW4A, all-district player hit .474 with seven home runs and 28 RBIs.

Amanda Dobner, Hickory Grove, Sr.: Four-time, NCISAA 3A all-state pick will continue her career at Liberty University.

Meredith Harris, Charlotte Christian, Sr.: Three-time all-state pick will play for the Charlotte 49ers.

Outfielders

Leah Murray, Hough, Sr.: MECKA 4A Player of the Year hit .640 with 26 runs, 11 stolen bases. Signed with North Carolina.

Regan Huneycutt, Hickory Grove, Sr.: Three-time all-time state pick helped her team to a NCISAA 3A state runner-up finish. Signed with Wingate.

Maddie Furr, Central Cabarrus, Sr.: Mars Hill signee hit .470 with 22 stolen bases.

Krista Romine, Jay M. Robinson, Sr.: Keleigh’s twin sister, hit.385 and had two home runs while taking on new roles as centerfielder and leadoff hitter. Signed with Mars Hill.

Designated Hitter

Rachel Marion, Northwestern, Jr.: All-state ’ catcher batted .483 with seven home runs, 14 doubles and 34 RBIs.

Madison Armstong, Highland Tech, Sr.: District 6, 1A Player of the Year will play for Western Carolina.

Utility

Emily Kenley, Lincoln Charter, Sr.: South Piedmont 1A Player of the Year led her team to 1A state semifinals. As a pitcher, she was 16-3 with 236 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted .306 and hit four home runs. Signed with Lenoir-Rhyne.

Haley Reid, Providence, Sr..: SoMeck8 Player of the Year hit .535 with 13 doubles. From the mound, she had 14 wins and a 0.90 ERA.
