Garinger High hires new head football coach, from Mallard Creek

Shon Galloway is the new head football coach at Garinger HIgh School.

Galloway has been an assistant coach at Mallard Creek since 2014.

Galloway replaces Greg Fowler, who was hired in March 2020. Fowler did not coach a game, however. The 2020 high school football season was pushed to February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fowler resigned his position hours before the Wildcats first game against Myers Park. Christian Price served as interim coach with five assistants, all non-staff volunteers.

Garinger finished 0-7 and was outscored 309-14.

Galloway will be Garinger’s 12th coach since 2011. The Wildcats have not had a winning season since 2010 and just two of them since 1995.

Before he came to Mallard Creek, Galloway coached in college at East Tennessee State, Tusculum College and Morehead State University where he served as Director of Strength and Conditioning for the football program.

“When we brought him to the school, we were impressed with the structure and discipline of his workouts, and how he interacted with and motivated our kids,” Garinger’s athletic director Art Malorzo said. “He has a great plan for our program, and I’m looking forward to seeing that plan put into action.”
