State championship private school adds new coach with deep college roots
Davidson Day’s new boys basketball coach has a lot of college experience.
The school hired Josh Stein, who has worked as an assistant coach at Salisbury University, Belmont Abbey, Queens and Catholic University (DC). He’s also been on high school staffs at Providence Day and Bishop Ireton (Va.).
Stein most recently worked at Charlotte Latin under head coach Chris Berger, whose team reached the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association state championship game in 2020.
“Josh is such a vital piece of our program and is a huge part of our successes,” Berger said. “I am thrilled for Josh and Davidson Day and look forward to great things.”
At Davidson Day, Stein will replace Ron Johnson, a state championship-winning coach who left to take over the program at Providence Day.
“We are excited to bring Josh on board, and we look forward to working with him immediately,” Davidson Day athletic director Chris Turner said. “Josh comes from a program which builds from within and truly appreciates the programmatic approach to team development. That approach brings stability and consistency, which in turn leads to long term success and consistent growth.”
