Notes: In a setting like Fall League, sometimes things can be a little relaxed. Cuts have not been made yet for high school teams so players with different agendas can sometimes be on the floor. The second week of the ABC Fall League was anything but relaxed. Defending state champions, and nationally ranked players took the floor, with media, videographers and college coaches taking it all in.
Here is what we learned from week two of the ABC Fall league
▪ Ezra Ausar is as dominant as he wants to be. The 6-foot-8, 235-pound Liberty Heights forward can handle the ball, post up, has excellent vision and he can defend. Ausar finished with a double-double in both of Liberty Height’s games on Sunday, as he continues to track as the top prospect in North Carolina’s 2022 class.
▪ Cannon School sophomore point guard Austin Swartz has taken his game to a new level. Swartz was able to play alongside Jarvis Moss (Stanford) last season as he was the fifth starter for a state championship team. There is no denying, this will be Swartz’ team. Standing 6-4, the guard is an innate ability to score the ball. He has deep range with the handle to get him open with just an inkling of daylight he needs. He is also an adept passer and wants the ball in crunch time. Swartz hit the game winner in overtime of Team Cougars first game to go 1-1 on the day.
▪ Noah van Bibber moved to Concord Academy this Summer, and he has taken no time to make his presence felt. The 6-5 junior has turned in the most complete performance of any shooting guard in this event. Van Bibber is a scorer, with deep range and soft touch. He is also bouncy, with a full arsenal of above the rim acrobatics. Van Bibber has led his Team CA in scoring each of their games, including a 7-for-9, 19-point performance against Liberty Heights.
▪ The best young prospect in the event must be 6-9 2025 Gevonte Ware with 1 of 1 Academy. Ware is a strong and mobile forward who can put the ball on the floor, finish at the rim, and knock down a three with his feet set. Ware, only a freshman, has yet to play a true varsity game, but he was acting as a bully on the block against players two and three years older. 1 of 1 Academy went 0-2 on the day, but they are by far the youngest team in the event, and they may have the best overall prospect roaming the paint for them.
▪ Lastly, I want to touch on winning players -- guys who may often go overlooked because they make the fundamental play over the flashy one. The consistency of Weddington 6-5 senior Chase Lowe and Cox Mill 6-2 senior Marcus Morgan (Concord (N.C.) Cox Mill High) has been eye-opening. Lowe is playing for Team Warriors and has finished with a double-double in each of his outings, along with five assists. The 200-pound point guard has been disruptive on both ends of the floor and has just made plays. Morgan is showing to be one of the best on ball defenders in the event, while also creating plays for his teammates.
▪ Week three of the ABC Fall League is Sunday (9/26), starting at 3:30 PM at Cox Mill High School. These games are open to the public for a $10 day pass. COVID protocols in place, inside the school.

Torstrick and Arden Anton teamed to beat Ackermann and Tami Alli 8-2 in No. 1 doubles.
