A Union County high school football coach has suddenly resigned in midseason

Sun Valley High football coach Drew Hackett has resigned for his position, effective immediately.

Hackett did not return a phone call left by the Observer. Hackett coached Sun Valley for two seasons.

The school released a statement Monday afternoon, saying Hackett had resigned to spend more time his family.

“We appreciate the time coach Hackett spent leading the Spartan football program and wish him much success in future coaching endeavors,” Sun Valley principal Dr. Mike Harvey said in the statement.

Sun Valley will begin to search for a new coach immediately and an interim coach will be named for Friday’s game.

Sun Valley is 0-4 and has been outscored 163-62 this season. The Spartans lost 60-21 to Monroe Friday and play at Central Pageland (SC) this week.

In the spring season, Sun Valley was 0-6 and was outscored 204-41. The school’s last win was 14-7 over Piedmont in November 2019.
