After historic win, South Meck makes jump in Sweet 16. Iredell County power joins poll

Unbeaten Statesville High School jumps into The Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 poll this week.

The Greyhounds have outscored opponents 318-76 and beat St. Stephens 57-14 Friday.

There was also some shuffling in the poll. After beating Myers Park Friday, its first win over Myers Park in seven years, South Meck jumped eight spots in the rankings, from No. 15 to No. 8. Myers Park fell from No. 4 to 9.

Shelby jumped three spots to No. 5, and Weddington is up two to No. 9.
