Cabarrus County high school has found a new football coach to replace a legend

It didn’t take long for Mount Pleasant High School to name a replacement for legendary coach Mike Johns.

Just a few weeks after Johns announced he was retiring after 23 years at the school, Mount Pleasant tapped Daniel Crosby as his replacement.

Crosby was previously the coach at Carson High School in China Grove.

Johns had the second most wins in football of any coach in Cabarrus County history, trailing only former Concord High coach E.Z. Smith. Johns’ record was 148-136 and his final team finished 6-5 and reached the North Carolina playoffs.

Carson was 4-6 this season under Crosby, a Catawba College graduate who was named head coach at Carson in February 2019. In high school at South Rowan, Crosby was an all-county football and baseball player.
