The first regular-season Sweet 16 polls have major changes, new faces, new No. 1s

There’s some major changes in the first regular-season boys and girls Sweet 16 basketball polls of the season.

In the boys poll, there’s a new No. 1, Carmel Christian, and seven new teams. One of them, Central Cabarrus, debuts at No. 4.

The preseason No. 1 Chambers is 3-3 playing a very aggressive schedule, but the Cougars were upset by Northside Christian on Saturday. Northside jumped seven spots to No. 13.

In the girls poll, unbeaten Charlotte Catholic takes over the top spot and there are five new teams led by No. 8 Salisbury.
