Prep Rewind: No. 2 Weddington drives past No. 5 Providence Day at Phenom Classic
No. 5 Providence Day hung with No. 2 Weddington for a half at the Phenom Hoops Classic in Rock Hill Saturday, but in the second half, the Warriors hot shooting and defense were too much for the Chargers to overcome.
Weddington pulled away for a decisive 59-46 win.
Weddington led 29-25 at halftime and expanded its lead with a 1-1-3 zone defense that few teams run and an aggressive man-to-man. Providence Day’s 6-10 center Riley Allenspach had 17 points but no other Chargers starter reached double figures.
Weddington got 20 points from Kyle Frazier, who got hot from 3-point range in the second half, plus 15 points each from Jack Ellyson and Chase Lowe.
