In Friday showdown, Chambers boys will try to end long losing streak to North Meck

Friday night’s Chambers-at-North Mecklenburg game is really two big games.

The girls play at 6 p.m. Chambers (8-4, 3-0) is defending 4A state champion and despite losing its top three scorers from that team, is strong again. Sophomore Mila Holloway is averaging 12.5 points a game. The Cougars are ranked third in the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll.

No. 9 North Mecklenburg (12-1, 3-0) is led by juniors Nevaeh Farmer (15.3 points a game) and Dearia Page (10.5).

The boys’ game follows. No. 3 North Mecklenburg (13-1, 3-0) has not lost to Chambers since February 2013, and it’s been five years since the Vikings beat the Cougars by less than 10 points.

Senior guard Jordan Crawford, a 6-2 Charleston commit, has scored 72 points in his last three games. Isaiah Evans, a 6-6 sophomore wing who is getting attention from ACC and SEC schools, had 17 points last week against private school power Greenfield School.

Coach Duane Lewis’ Vikings also have a pair of standout defensive specialists in guards Maxwell Coles and Davion Cunningham.

Chambers counters with sophomore forward Maurio Hanson (12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds), who has interest from Power 5 schools; senior center Daniel Sanford (14.2, 6.9), a South Carolina commit; and Curry.
