Richmond Senior joins the Sweet 16 this week and there’s a new, familiar, girls No. 1

Welcome Richmond Senior to the Sweet 16. Rockingham isn’t just a football town anymore.

This year, the Raiders are off to a school-best 15-0 start, led by top 20 national recruit Paul McNeil, a 6-foot-6 sophomore who is averaging 24 points, eight rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.

Sophomore Javion Drake, a 5-9 guard, is averaging 13 points, 3.2 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.3 rebounds.

Richmond, which has also tied a school-record for consecutive wins, jumps to No. 6 this week.

In the girls poll, Myers Park moves to No. 1 after Providence Day upset previous No. 1 Charlotte Catholic last week. Providence Day moved into the top five and Catholic dropped four spots.

Myers Park won back-to-back N.C. 4A state championships in 2014 and ‘15, years it also won the Sweet 16 championship.

Note: records and results are through Friday
