Friday’s Independence at Butler game was postponed due a leak. The teams will resume play Saturday at noon and tickets from Friday will be honored.

The Observer’s Alex Shiltz got photos Friday.

Boys Basketball Recaps

Cox Mill captured the Greater Metro 4 4A Conference boys’ basketball regular-season title Friday night, beating South Iredell 76-41. The Chargers entered the night tied for first with Mooresville, but the Blue Devils were upset at Lake Norman.

More details are below.

Meanwhile, there will be a pair of meaningful boys’ high school basketball games played Saturday afternoon in the Charlotte area.

Independence and Butler will continue their suspended game at noon in the Butler gym. The game was halted Friday night due to a water leak in the ceiling. The water made the court unplayable.

The game is important because a Butler victory would give the Bulldogs a share of the Southwestern 4A Conference championship with Rocky River, which won Friday night. The Ravens finished 9-3 in the conference. Butler is 8-3.

The other key game Saturday is set for 1:30 p.m. at Salisbury High.

Jesse Carson and East Rowan finished in a sixth-place tie in the South Piedmont 3A Conference, each with 4-10 records. The South Piedmont 3A tournament next week is a six-team affair, so Saturday’s winner gets a tournament berth. The loser is finished for the season.
