After more than 85,000 votes, Charlotte Observer readers have named South Rowan’s Bethany Rymer as girls high school basketball senior of the year.

The media outlet ran a poll for a week that included nominees who were ranked in MaxPreps among the top 20 statewide in points, rebounds, steals or assists.

In China Grove, Rymer is averaging 20.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 2.9 assists. She will run cross-country and track in college at Columbia International University, where her older sister, Kira, is a volleyball star.

Rymer has scored 1,000 points in her high school career, and her mother, Donna, said that Rymer is a member of the Army National Guard who has already completed basic training.
