North Raleigh Christian stops No. 1 Cannon School

North Raleigh Christian won its 15th straight game and ended Cannon’s 15-game win streak in the NCISAA 4A semifinals Tuesday, winning 49-46.

It was a rematch of last year’s state championship, which Cannon won.

On Tuesday, Cannon grabbed a 17-8 first quarter lead but the Cougars didn’t win a quarter after that as North Raleigh center Imani Lester took over the game. She finished with 23 points. Lili Booker had a career-high 23 for Cannon (21-7).

Kennette Bess, Ashbrook: game-high 29 points in a 74-61 win over Fred T. Foard.

Alyssa Lewis, Hickory Ridge: team-high 17 points in a 47-43 overtime upset of No. 4 South Mecklenburg, the SoMECK 4A tournament champion.

Ginny Overbay, East Lincoln: 21 points, nine rebounds, six steals in a 59-38 win over West Henderson.

Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic: 13 points, seven blocks, six rebounds in a 62-21 win over Greensboro’s Page High.

Julianna Walter, Alexander Central: 34 points, on 12-of-17 shooting, in a 53-40 win over Ragsdale. She also had five steals, four assists and two rebounds.
