Thursday’s NC statewide scores and pairings

No. 9 North Meck stops No. 5 Myers Park on the road

Taylor Dunn scored eight points in the final four minutes, helping visiting North Mecklenburg to a 61-55 upset victory over Myers Park in the second round of the girls’ 4A playoffs.

The Vikings (24-3) led the Mustangs (21-7) by two points late in the second quarter but took advantage of two Myers Park turnovers to go on a 5-0 run and lead by seven at intermission.

North Mecklenburg built its lead in the third quarter and was up 42-31 late in the period.

Myers Park’s rally was fueled by sophomore guard Jerin Truesdale, who scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The Mustangs got their first lead of the game, 46-44, on a Truesdale basket with 5:30 left. They twice missed shots on opportunities to build their lead to four points.

The Vikings came back and took a 49-48 lead on a 3-pointer by Dunn with 3:45 left. Anna Giannopoulou hit two free throws, putting Myers Park back on top 50-49. North Mecklenburg took the lead for good, 54-52, on a layup by Dunn with 3:01 left. Nevaeh Farmer scored on a layup for the Vikings with 1:50 left, and when Dunn made two free throws with 1:19 remaining, North Mecklenburg had built its lead to 58-52.

The Vikings will travel to Charlotte Catholic in a third-round game Saturday.

Cassidy Geddes, Newton-Conover: 39 points, 12 rebounds, seven steals, two assists and a block in a win over Wheatmore.

Mila Holloway, Chambers: 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 62-53 win over Hickory Ridge. Teammate Trinity Moreland (15 points, eight rebounds, two blocks) also had a big game.

Hailey McFadden, East Lincoln: 15 points, 10 rebounds, one assists in a 58-56 win over West Rowan.

Dearia Page, North Meck: game-high 19 points, five steals and four rebounds in a 61-55 win over Myers Park.

Brooke Scheffler, Watauga: game-high 18 points in a 57-31 win over Reagan.
