Who will be the girls and boys HS basketball player of the year in NC? One of these six

Here are the finalists for Mr. and Ms. Basketball in North Carolina.

The award annually goes to the boys’ and girls’ player of the year in the state.

The winner will be announced on the Charlotte Observer/News & Observer streaming high school show, “Talking Preps NC” Monday, March 7.

Boys finalists

Jordan Crawford, North Mecklenburg: a senior guard, Crawford is a College of Charleston signee, who led the Vikings to Tuesday’s N.C. 4A regional semifinal with Myers Park.

Daniel Sanford, Chambers: a senior forward, Sanford is a South Carolina signee who led the Cougars to Tuesday’s N.C. 4A regional semifinal at Weddington.

Cade Tyson, Carmel Christian: a senior forward, Tyson is a Belmont signee who scored 31 points in the Cougars’ state championship upset win over nationally ranked Greensboro Day.

Girls finalists

Indya Nivar, Apex Friendship: McDonald’s All-American, a senior, led Apex Friendship to Tuesday’s regional semifinal against Green Level.

Sarah Strong, Grace Christian: Sophomore center led Grace Christian to the N.C. Independent Schools 1A state championship over Victory Christian.

Blanca Thomas, Charlotte Catholic: Sophomore center led Charlotte Catholic to Tuesday’s N.C. 4A regional semifinal against Lake Norman.
