Wednesday’s Rewind: Hough soccer end Lake Norman Charter’s long streak
One of North Carolina’s longest unbeaten streaks in high school sports came to an end Wednesday night, when Lake Norman Charter dropped a 5-1 girls’ soccer decision to host Hough.
It ended a 26-match unbeaten streak for the Knights, who are defending 2A state champions but playing at the 3A level this season.
Lake Norman Charter’s last loss had been in the 2019 state championship match, when the Knights fell to Carrboro in a clash settled by penalty kicks.
The Knights went 3-0-1 in the COVID-shortened 2020 season and then 19-0 last year.
They had won their opening three matches this season.
But Hough, a 4A power, was too much this time. Lane Hathaway scored two goals, Elon Rutty-Andre added a goal and an assist, and Jessica Brannon had two assists for the Huskies.
Rylie Cook scored for Lake Norman Charter.
Much of Wednesday’s spring high school sports schedule was wiped out by wet grounds, but some activity took place.
