Two Hickory Ridge stars win Charlotte Observer boys, girls athlete of the week
Two Hickory Ridge stars are the Charlotte Observer high school boys and girls athletes of the week.
▪ Golfer Brandon Jones, a senior, shot a five-under-par 31 to earn medalist honors while leading his Hickory Ridge team to a 29-shot victory over Hickory Grove at Pine Lake Country Club on March 17.
Jones had five birdies in his round, including three in a row at one point in the math.
The Ferrum College commit (Va.) is averaging a 36.3 per nine holes.
▪ Nina Dominique, a freshman track runner, set a personal record with an 11.98 to win the 100-meter dash at West Cabarrus on March 14.
Dominique was also a part of the 4x200-meter relay that finished first place at the same meet.
Dominique’s efforts helped the Hickory Ridge girls’ team to victory over Cox Mill, Central Cabarrus, West Cabarrus and A.L. Brown.
