Meet the All-Observer 2021-22 high school boys and girls wrestling teams
Here are the 2021-22 All-Observer boys and girls wrestling teams. These are the top wrestlers in the newspaper’s coverage zone, which covers 17 counties and 163 schools.
All-Observer Boys Wrestling Team
Mallard Creek sophomore Cameron Stinson is the Charlotte Observer wrestler of the year after going a perfect 46-0 this season, capping it with 4A state championship at 113 pounds.
Stinson, who won the 106-pound 4A state title as a freshman, is still unbeaten in his high school career at 79-0.
▪ The Fred T. Foard wrestling team come into every season with great expectations as six-time NCHSAA 2A state champions.
This year, Tigers’ coach Mike Carey won the Charlotte Observer wrestling coach of the year after leading Foard to their second consecutive 3A state championship.
The Tigers (34-12) were dominant in the state championship, winning 10 of the 12 matches to beat Union Pines 58-12.
Fred T. Foard won its fourth state title since 2013.

106: Noah Cauble, Piedmont/Gavin Ulrich, Metrolina Christian: Cauble, a junior, won the 4A state title going 45-6; Ulrich, an eighth-grader, was 18-0 in winning a NCISAA state championship.
113: Cameron Stinson, Mallard Creek: Mavericks’ sophomore was a perfect 46-0 as he defended his 4A state title, this time at 113 pounds.
120: Jackson Baglio, Central Cabarrus/Noah Luna, Providence: Baglio, a Vikings’ junior, was a perfect 30-0 on his way to the 3A state title; Luna went 34-1 and won the 4A state championship.
126: Kyle Montaperto, Central Academy: 3A state champion, a senior, was a perfect 40-0 this season.
132: Marcus Jackson, Central Cabarrus/Eli Murray, Lake Norman: Jackson, a senior, won the 3A state title going 34-2 overall; Murray was 48-7, capping his sophomore season with a 4A state championship.
138: Jacob Cox, South Rowan: The Raiders’ senior went a perfect 36-0, capping his high school career with a 3A state championship.
145: Josh Fahrenkrog, Metrolina Christian/Zack Karagias, Stuart Cramer: Fahrenkrog was 36-2 on his way to a second straight NCISAA state title in his final high school season; Karagias, also a senior, was 31-1 en route to the 3A state crown.
152: Kenlee Griffin, Cannon School: The Cougars’ junior was 21-5 this season, won the NCISAA state title.
160: Aiden Curry, Central Academy/Caleb Moore, Bandys/Tre Wilfong, Charlotte Christian: All three wrestlers were dominant en route to state titles, with Curry (34-1, a senior) winning the 3A state championship; Moore (48-2, a senior) the 2A state title; and Wilfong (40-4, a sophomore) the NCISAA state crown.
170: Caleb Campos, Cannon School/Kyler Pickard, Mount Pleasant: Campos, the Cougars’ senior, won the NCISAA state title going 32-2 this season; Pickard, also a senior, was 48-3 on his way to a 2A state championship.
182: Bryce McFerson, Metrolina Christian/Brady Ross, Central Academy: McFerson (25-6), a Notre Dame football commit and senior, won his second straight NCISAA state title; Ross, also a senior, was 39-1 en route to winning the 3A state crown.
195: Owen Clark, Newton Conover/Riley Venos, Cannon School: Clark, a junior, was 51-2 on his way to a 2A state title; Venos, a senior, was 25-2 overall, won NCISAA state championship.
220: Nathan Carnes, Porter Ridge/Dylan Smith, Fred T. Foard: Carnes, a junior (40-4), was the 4A state champion and meet’s most outstanding wrestler; Smith, also a junior, was 46-1 on his way to the 3A state title.
285: Hudson Jones, Charlotte Christian: The Knights’ senior won his fourth consecutive, NCISAA state title going 28-0, a Western Carolina football signee.

All-Observer girls wrestling team
Parkwood junior Savannah Bramhall came into this season with championship expectations after winning state titles in each of her first two high school seasons.
This year, Bramhall was a perfect 25-0 on her way to a three-peat. She also earns the Charlotte Observer girls wrestler of the year award.
Bramhall is also a standout in the classroom, where she boasts a 4.25 grade-point average.

100: Jeulenea Khang, Freedom: The Patriots’ junior was state runner-up.
114: Leah Edwards, East Rowan: The Mustangs’ freshman finished third in the state.
120: Ferrell Ava, Cox Mill: The Chargers’ junior came in fourth-place in the state championships.
126: Kahlen Kuddie, A.L. Brown: Wonders’ freshman also took home a fourth-place state finish.
132: Brianna DeLeon, Weddington: The Warriors’ freshman finished third-place at the state championships.
138: Alysha Earley, Alexander Central: The Cougars’ senior finished as state runner-up.
145: Sarem Desalegn, Mallard Creek: Mavericks’ sophomore wrestled to a fourth-place finish at the state championships.
152: Caleigh Suddreth, Lake Norman: Wildcats’ sophomore became the first Lake Norman girls’ wrestler to win a state title.
165: Savannah Bramhall, Parkwood: The Wolfpack junior won her third consecutive, NCISAA title, going a perfect 25-0 this season.
185: Ella Beam, Burns: The first four-time, state champion in state history finished her high school career on top.
235: Khalila Corry, Mallard Creek: Mavericks’ senior capped her career with a state title, also becoming first female wrestler in school history to sign a letter of intent with Lakeland University in Wisconsin.
