History-making CMS Flag Football league championship is Sunday at Bank of America Stadium

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools girls flag football players will get a treat Sunday: They’ll get to play where the NFL’s Carolina Panthers play.

The Panthers and CMS will host the final day of competition of the inaugural girls league beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday morning with the final regular-season games. The semifinals will be played Sunday afternoon, followed by the final.

Admission is free.

CMS and the Panthers partnered to start the league with the Carolina Panthers Charities providing $50,000 in custom uniforms and resources to 20 teams — all the schools in CMS and Charlotte Catholic. The teams have been playing games weekly since kicking off the season earlier this spring at Hough High School.

On Sunday, each team will play their final two regular-season games.

“The partnership with CMS athletics to pilot the girls high school flag football league has proven itself to be a significant opportunity for female student-athletes,” said Riley Fields, Carolina Panthers director of community relations. “We are thrilled to provide teams with the opportunity to conclude their seasons at Bank of America Stadium knowing they have laid the groundwork for future opportunities for girls in other school districts in our region. We are excited about the continued growth of the sport.”

Select stadium concessions are available from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Spectators must enter through the stadium’s South Gate (Morehead Street side of the stadium). The NFL Clear Bag Policy will be enforced. Parking is available for purchase from various independent parking companies in the Uptown area, including the Legacy Union parking deck (720 S. Church Street).
