Northwest Cabarrus’ Jaylen Currence is The Observer’s boys athlete of the week

Northwest Cabarrus track star Jaylen Currence is The Charlotte Observer’s boys high school athlete of the week.

The Trojans’ senior won the 400-meter dash in a personal-best 48.78 at the 3A Midwest Regional at Davie County High May 13.

Currence also won the 800-meter run (2:03.72) and the 4 X 800-meter relay, while finishing third-place in the 4 X 400-meter relay at the 3A Midwest Regional.

The Northwest Cabarrus boys’ track team finished sixth-place as a team at the regional meet.
