All-Observer Soccer: Ardrey Kell’s Taylor, Lake Norman Charter’s Reichert take top honors
Ardrey Kell star Taylor Suarez and Lake Norman coach Jason Reichert headline the 2022 All-Observer girls soccer team.
These are the top players in the newspaper’s coverage area.
Suarez, just a sophomore, is The Charlotte Observer girls’ soccer player of the year after helping the Knights (25-2-1) to a 4A state runner-up finish with 17 goals and 12 assists this season.
Suarez is not only an All-American and all-state selection but was also named N.C. Soccer Coaches’ state player of the year. She is also a member of the U17 U.S. Women’s Youth National Team that recently won the CONCACAF gold medal.
Reichert, the coach of the year, led the Knights to a 3A state title in their first in year in the classification. The school moved up from 2A a year ago, when the Knights won the N.C. 2A state title.
ALL-CHARLOTTE OBSERVER GIRLS SOCCER TEAM
FIRST TEAM
Forwards
Michaela Deas, Community School of Davidson, Sr.: Appalachian State commit and all-state pick led the Spartans with 36 goals and 18 assists.
Ava Hartman, Hickory Christian, Jr.: The Knights’ all-state forward had 49 goals, including seven in the state semifinals, to lead the Hickory Christian girls’ soccer team to its third straight NCISAA 2A state championship.
Aleisha Lamb, Independence, Sr.: The North Greenville University commit and all-state selection led the Patriots to a Southwestern 4A conference title and the best season in school history. Independence reached the third round of the 4A playoffs. She had 14 goals, including five game-winners plus 13 assists, three of which led to game-winning goals.
Ella Smith, Charlotte Latin, Jr.: The University of North Carolina commit and all-state pick led the NCISAA 4A state runner-up with 17 goals and 19 assists.
Grace Smith, South Point, Jr.: The Red Raiders’ all-state forward was a scoring machine with 45 goals and 18 assists.
Taylor Suarez, Ardrey Kell, So.: The Knights’ All-American and all-state performer led 4A state runner-up with 17 goals, 12 assists.
Sutton Webb, Salisbury, Sr.: University of Georgia signee, an all-state performer, had 55 goals giving her a Rowan County record 155 career scores.
Midfielder/Forwards
Kennedy Bell, Hough, Jr.: The Huskies’ all-state pick was the Queen City Athletic Conference player of the year with 18 goals and 16 assists.
Alexa Lopez, Lincolnton, Sr.: The Wolves’ first all-state pick was the Catawba Valley Athletic Conference offensive player of the year. She had 41 goals and 39 assists.
Haven Stanley, Lake Norman Charter, Sr.: The Knights’ all-state performer poured in 48 goals and dished out 43 assists.
Midfielders
Maddie Eastman, Charlotte Country Day, Sr.: University of Kentucky commit, an all-state selection, had 17 goals and 14 assists.
Erin Figueroa, Union Academy, Sr.: The Cardinals’ senior all-state pick had seven goals and six assists to earn the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A player of the year honor.
Maria Manousos, Weddington, Sr.: Clemson University commit and all-state pick led Warriors with 16 goals.
Jacey Rase, Lake Norman, Sr.: West Virginia University commit, an all-state midfielder, was Greater Metro 4A conference player of the year. She led the Wildcats with 17 goals and 14 assists.
Eliza Rich, Lake Norman Charter, Sr.: N.C. State commit and all-state pick led Knights with 60 goals.
Cameryn Sicard, Providence Day, Jr.: The Chargers’ all-state pick and University of Richmond commit was a primary playmaker for the state champions with eight goals and nine assists.
Defenders
Sophia Bruz, Providence, Jr.: The Miami (Florida) commit was named all-state. She also had eight goals and 13 assists for the Panthers.
Maggie Carabell, Providence Day, Sr.: All-state defender led a unit that allowed just 11 goals in 22 games, including 16 shutouts in that same span.
Tatum Goodling, Covenant Day, Sr.: The Calvin College (Michigan) commit was an all-state defender.
Mia Lynch, Myers Park, Sr.: The Mustangs’ all-state defender has started every game at center back for Myers Park in the last two seasons. She led a defense that allowed just 14 goals in 21 games.
Carly Montgomery, Ardrey Kell, Jr.: The University of Florida commit, an all-state pick, was SoMeck 4A player of the year. She anchored a Knights’ defense that allowed 10 goals in 28 games. Montgomery also scored nine goals and had five assists.
Reese Robinson, Lake Norman Charter, Sr.: The Appalachian State commit was an all-state pick and South Piedmont 3A conference defensive player of the year. Her team allowed 11 goals in 27 games.
Goalkeepers
Rylee Conard, Hibriten, Jr.: The Panthers’ junior, the co-Northwestern 3A/4A player of the year, had 100 saves, 12 shutouts to earn all-state honors.
Alexis Wolgemuth, Fred T. Foard, Sr.: The Tigers’ all-state goalkeeper is a Marshall University signee.
