All-Observer tennis: Pine Lake’s Ramanata, Marvin Ridge’s Williams take top honors
Pine Lake Prep senior Tyler Ramanata and Marvin Ridge coach Kyle Williams highlight the 2022 All-Observer boys tennis team.
▪ Ramanata is The Charlotte Observer boys’ tennis player of the year after winning the 2A state singles’ title. He finished the season at 22-0 in singles, playing his first year in 2A. A year ago, Ramanata won the 1A singles state title and he is 58-2 in his high school singles career.
▪ Williams led the Mavericks to a 4A state team championship in Marvin Ridge’s first year in the classification. Marvin Ridge moved up from 3A.
Marvin Ridge (17-2) beat Green Hope 5-3 in the 4A state finals.
The Mavericks, the co-3A state champion in 2021, also won 3A state team titles in 2015 and 2016.

FIRST TEAM
Singles
Gabe Avram, Carmel Christian, So.: The Cougars’ all-state performer was 15-0 in singles play and is one of the top junior tennis players in the state and the country.
Shaurya Bharadwaj, Providence Day, So.: The Chargers’ all-state No. 1 player is amongst the top junior players in the nation.
Ethan Boswell, South Mecklenburg, Sr.: The SoMeck 4A player of the year won the 4A West Regional singles title and made it to the state quarterfinals.
Nikhil Deshpande, Langtree Charter, Fr.: The Lions’ freshman won the 1A state singles title to become the first individual state champion in school history.
James Dover, South Point, Fr.: The Red Raiders’ star was a 3A state semifinalist in his first high school season.
Tyler Komito, Marvin Ridge, Jr.: The Southern Carolinas conference champion was the 4A state championship’s most valuable player.
Tyler Ramanata, Pine Lake Prep, Sr.: The defending 1A state champion won the 2A state singles title and 2A West Regional title.
Charlie Schweppe, Thomas Jefferson Academy, Fr.: The 1A state runner-up earned the No. 1 spot on his team as a freshman.
Walker Valentine, Lake Norman, Jr.: The 4A state singles semifinalist also won the 4A Midwest singles title and was Greater Metro 4A conference player of the year.

Jackson Davis, Hough, So./Jesus Espinoza, Hough, So.: The Huskies’ duo was 4A state runner-up and 4A West Regional champions.
Connor Gay, Lake Norman, Sr./Ellis Klanduch, Lake Norman, Jr.: 4A Midwest Regional championship pairing made it to the 4A state semifinals.
Costen Holtzman, Hickory, Sr./Griffin Lovern, Hickory, Jr.: The Red Tornadoes’ duo was the 3A state runner-up after winning the 3A state title in 2021.
Nathan Jackson, Charlotte Country Day, Sr./Noah McDonald, Charlotte Country Day, So.: The Buccaneers’ all-state duo led Charlotte Country Day (15-2) to an NCISAA Division I state championship.
Harrison Parker Williams, Marvin Ridge, Jr./Rish Reddy, Marvin Ridge, Sr.: The 4A Midwest Regional runner-up duo was critical in leading the Mavericks to a 4A state (team) championship.
