After teaming up with Mikey Williams, a local HS basketball star joins Overtime Elite
After playing for Charlotte’s Vertical Academy with high school phenom Mikey Williams last season, Trey Parker will play for Overtime Elite in 2022-23.
This will be the second season for Overtime Elite, a league that features top 17- to 20-year-old U.S. and international players. The players form three teams and play primarily at the OTE Arena in Atlanta. Players can earn a minimum of $100,000 per year and receive additional money to cover college tuition should they not make a professional league.
In addition, Overtime players get bonuses, shares of equity in Overtime and can earn revenue using their name, image and likeness, including sales of custom jerseys, trading cards, video games and NFTs.
This year, Overtime has added an option for players to preserve their college eligibility, via a scholarship option. Parker has decided to go that route and is still eligible for college.
Last season, the top high school recruit in South Carolina, Jazian Gortman, skipped his senior year to play at Overtime, where he reportedly earned more than $500,000. Gortman, who will return for his second season with Overtime this fall, averaged 12 points per game last season.
With Williams returning to San Diego for his senior season, Parker decided to join Overtime. He goes in along with Naasir Cunningham, the No. 1 ranked high school player in the class of 2024. Cunningham, a 6-foot-7 wing with a 6-11 wingspan, announced his decision in April.
Originally from Fayetteville, Parker is a 6-2 shooting guard known for his high-flying dunks. At the fifth annual UnderClassman All-American game in March, Parker made 10 three-pointers and scored 42 points. In two games with Vertical Academy against Overtime teams last season, Parker averaged 19 points and scored a game-high 24 in the second game.
“I’ve spent my career working with the top athletes around the world, and Trey’s natural explosiveness continues to blow me away” said Tim Fuller, OTE Vice President of Recruiting. “We’re excited to see the results of putting a professional basketball development program around him because the sky’s the limit.”
