This time, Chambers High had no problem with Hickory Ridge.

Playing without all-state receiver KC Concepcion, an N.C. State commit, the Cougars showed why they are the No. 2 ranked team in The Charlotte Observer Sweet 16, dominating the No. 8 Ragin’ Bulls 42-21.

This didn’t look anything like the two games the teams played last year, one of which required a Chambers long drive in the final seconds to win.

With Concepcion out, quarterback Bubba Camp, an Old Dominion recruit, made plays with his feet -- either running outright or keeping plays alive and tossing over rushing defenders. Tailback Braylon Vinson was particularly effective in the first half, too. His 45-yard run, followed by a 5-yard scoring gave Chambers a 21-0 first half lead.

In the first half, Camp had a scoring run and Vinson had two.

And when Camp scored his second rushing TD of the game, in the middle of the third quarter, the Cougars were up comfortably 28-0 and had salted the game away.

Chambers (3-1) handed Hickory Ridge (2-2) its second loss of the season. Catholic beat Hickory Ridge 35-34 in overtime two weeks ago.
