Here are the N.C. high school football players of the week from Week 9.

Watch them announced live, as the “Grices Gems” on Talking Preps NC every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on The Charlotte Observer and News & Observer webpages and social media outlets.

This week’s episode is embedded above this story (scroll to the 31:40 mark for the highlights to begin).

TANNER BALLOU, NORTHWEST GUILFORD: In a 47-21 win over Jamestown Ragsdale, Ballou was 18-of-27 for 311 yards and seven touchdowns. He had a QB rating of 145.2.

SINCERE BAINES, JACK BRITT: 298 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 27-20 win over Cape Fear. Baines came into the game with 1,360 yards and 16 touchdowns, good for No. 8 in North Carolina

MAKHI CARR, BUTLER: scored three touchdowns in the final nine minutes, 47 seconds as the Bulldogs rallied from a 19-0 deficit to beat Charlotte Catholic 20-19. Down 19-0, Carr ran a kickoff back 68 yards for a touchdown. He caught an 8-yard scoring pass to cut the lead to 19-14 and then he caught a tipped pass, intended for teammate Dequandre Currence, and ran 47 yards for the final score -- and go-ahead points.

TRIPP WOODY, CHARLOTTE CHRISTIAN: kicked a 47-yard field goal, with no time remaining, to lift his team to a 38-37 win over Providence Day, which was ranked No. 1 in The Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 regional poll. Charlotte Christian trailed by 20 points twice in this game and didn’t get a first down until the second quarter.

JORDAN YOUNG, MONROE: In a 40-0 win over Parkwood, Monroe intercepted six passes. Young, a sophomore, had four. The N.C. public school record of five is shared by five different players. So Young ties for second-most ever.
