Newton-Conover’s Jesus “Chucho” Mejia is The Observer’s boys athlete of the week

Newton-Conover soccer player Jesus “Chucho” Mejia is The Charlotte Observer’s boys high school athlete of the week.

The Red Devils’ junior had three goals and one assist in a 9-0 first round win over Morehead, Nov. 1.

Mejia also had two goals and one assist in a 6-1 win over Brevard in the second round of the 2A state playoffs.

Mejia has 33 goals and 11 assists for a Newton Conover team (18-3-1) that had 16 straight wins through Sunday.
