Two new teams join The Sweet 16 this week and the poll gets a big shakeup.

Several ranked teams lost this week, as the second week of the playoffs finished. The top three — Kings Mountain, Providence Day and Hough — remained in place. After that? Lots of changes.

Following a 42-0 over state power and reigning N.C. 2A state champion Shelby, the Burns High Bulldogs move eight spots to No. 8

Fresh off a 74-41 win over the reigning 3A state champs from Dudley, South Point jumped into the top 10 this week.

And two new teams are in: 11-1 Monroe and 12-0 Chase. Monroe, a 2A team, has won six straight games, since losing 24-20 to 4A Porter Ridge. For the season, the Redhawks have outscored opponents 557-89.

Chase, also 2A, is enjoying perhaps the school’s best ever season. Chase has outscored opponents 620-126 for the season 109-29 in the playoffs.
