Here are the Reader’s Choice winners for Fall Sports athletes of the year

After a week-long vote that generated more than 150,000 responses, here are the athletes that Observer readers selected as fall sports athletes of the year.

These selections do not represent the annual All-Observer teams, which will appear later this month.

Will Grainger, Charlotte Country Day: Grainger ended the season No. 5 among N.C. Independent Schools players with 16 assists.

Amaya Hall, Sun Valley volleyball: Hall led the state with 1,064 assists.

Malerie Lague, Christ The King girls golf: finished second at the NCHSAA 1A/2A state championship.

Joseph Locke, Christ The King boys cross-country: Top Locke had a top 10 finish at the 1A state championship meet.

Teagan Reilly, Myers Park tennis: Reilly was a 4A singles semifinalist.

Kate Willette, Charlotte Christian girls cross-country: Willette finished third at the NCISAA 4A meet.

NOTE: These are not The All-Observer teams. Those will be selected by the newspaper’s coverage team and will be announced later. Also, poll results may not be shown all week. That is normal.

Here are the nomination qualifications:

GIRLS GOLF: A golfer had to have a top 10 finish at their respective state championship.

BOYS SOCCER: a player had to rank in the MaxPreps top 10 statewide, or top five in an NCHSAA classification or the NCISAA in goal, assists or goals against average.

VOLLEYBALL: a player had to rank in the MaxPreps top 10 statewide in kills, assists, aces, blocks or digs

CROSS-COUNTRY: A player needed a top five percentage at an NCHSAA state championship or top 3 in the NCISAA.
