Talking Preps 0116: Are high schools basketball teams playing too much?
A new Talking Preps NC is on tap for today at a special time. The show begins Monday (Jan. 16) at 6 p.m. with replays after.
On tap:
▪ Randall and Rick react to the biggest game of the year so far: No. 2 Carmel Christian rallying to beat No. 1 Myers Park by a point.
▪ In the rundown, the team discusses Lake Norman’s girls and if anyone can challenge them in the West. Chelsea and Alex talk about Eastern 4A girls contenders. We also discuss “under-the-radar” stars., whether a 5A class would be good for NCHSAA basketball and if the NCISAA should push back its season to match the public schools.
▪ In the first edition of “Randall’s Rockstars,” the star of the show honors his picks for player of the week: Elle Stone, Mallard Creek; Jerin Truesdale, Myers Park; Kelsey Rhyne, Lake Norman; Kairah Dixon-Booker of North Meck, and North Meck’s Nevaeh Farmer, who joins us live in studio.
▪ Charlotte Christian’s John Lash, who just had Tommy Jonn surgery in the spring, talks about his quick recovery. He’s averaging 25 points and 14 rebounds this season and battles Randall on “The Game Show.”
▪ Chelsea sits down with one of North Carolina’s top players, Farmville Central’s Jah Short, who talks signing New Orleans and getting a “revenge ring.”
▪ Randall and Rick preview the biggest girls and boys games of the week, and in the first edition of “Rick’s Picks,” the Guru picks out his players of the week: Chambers’ Nick Dorn, East Meck’s Jordon Nevill, Charlotte Country Day’s Dallas Gardner, Carmel Christian’s team and Cox Mill’s record-setting DJ Boyce, who joins us live in studio.
▪ Finally on “Coach Vs. Coach,” Gary and Randall debate whether high schools are now playing too many nights a week; if CMS should allow regular-season games with private schools; and if CMS should start hosting all three conference tournament finals at the same site again.
