Former Ardrey Kell assistant named head football coach at Cox Mill High in Cabarrus Co.
Breon Holmes is the new head football coach at Cox Mill High School in Cabarrus County.
Holmes replaces Shawn Baker, who recently left the school to become head coach at Hough High in Mecklenburg County.
Holmes spent the past three seasons as associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Charlotte’s Ardrey Kell High School. At Ardrey Kell, he helped the Knights to three straight playoff appearances and helped produce 18 all-conference selections.
Holmes was also wrestling coach at Ardrey Kell, where his team had a cumulative 3.2 GPA and produced six state championship qualifiers, 14 regional qualifiers and 12 all-conference selections.
Before going to Ardrey Kell, Holmes was an assistant for three years at Charlotte’s Providence Day School.
Holmes, 32, graduated from Statesville High School in 2009 and Methodist College in 2013, where he was an all-conference offensive lineman. He and wife Terasha have two children.
“We’re continuing to build a champion at Cox Mill and that starts with championship people,” Cox Mill athletic director Ty Johnson said. “Coach Holmles is someone who makes me want to be a better person. He is a winner. He wants to make a difference and make our student-athletes model citizens, model students and model athletes. I am excited to have coach Holmes and his family in the Cox Mill family and for our athletic department to be around him because his energy and passion for student-athletes is infectious.”
